[ translate ]

Oceania, Papua New Guinea, ca. mid 20th century CE. A large wooden shield with an overall rectangular composition, terminating in a curved point. Relief-carved details form a symmetrical design on one face - repeated concentric diamonds and horizontal lines. These may represent mythical creatures who are often the subjects of similar shields. The back of the shield features two raised vertical bars, used for holding. Size: 10.3" W x 39.1" H (26.2 cm x 99.3 cm)

Provenance: private J.H. collection, Beaverton, Oregon, USA, acquired between 2005 and 2010

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
