Central Asia, Tibet, ca. early 20th century CE. An iron kartika knife with a bronze dorje as its handle. The dorje is a ritual object associated with the concept of Enlightenment in Tibetan Buddhism, here formed of four spokes meeting at a raised center support set atop a lotus flower that wraps around the sickle-shaped iron blade. The Kartika blade is associated with Vajrayana Buddhism and is a ritualistic flaying knife. Size: 2.3" W x 5.4" H (5.8 cm x 13.7 cm)
