3 Egyptian Faience Amulets - Sons of Horus

[ translate ]

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A wonderful quartet of 3faience amulets in the form of the Sons of Horus, all enveloped in a brilliant azure glaze and displaying 2-dimensional forms. Each is mummiform and shown in profile, with a head denoting which son he is, and a drilled hole for an eye and at the heel, the latter presumably for suspension. Remains of black paint on 3 of them. The 4 Sons of Horus are Duamutef who is of jackal form, Imsety who is human, Hapi who is of baboon form, and Qebehsenuef who is of falcon form. Horus' sons were charged with protecting the internal organs of mummies, as they had originally been charged with protecting the body of Osiris; as a result, their heads often form the lids of canopic jars. Size (of largest): 0.6" W x 2.8" H (1.5 cm x 7.1 cm)

Provenance: private Toronto, Ontario, Canada collection, by descent, acquired in Egypt in 1894 to 1896

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to recent increases of shipments being seized by Australian & German customs (even for items with pre-UNESCO provenance), we will no longer ship most antiquities and ancient Chinese art to Australia & Germany. For categories of items that are acceptable to ship to Australia or Germany, please contact us directly or work with your local customs brokerage firm.

Display stands not described as included/custom in the item description are for photography purposes only and will not be included with the item upon shipping.

#167151
Condition Report: Duamutef has foot reattached with break lines visible. All have expected nicks and pitting, commensurate with age. Otherwise, all are excellent with impressive remaining glaze.
