3rd C. Roman Imperial Bronze Belt Components (7 pcs)

**First Time At Auction**

Roman, late Imperial Period, ca. late 3rd to 4th century CE. A fine set of seven cast-bronze belt components from the late Roman Empire, each boasting minute hammered triangular motifs. A small crescent-shaped buckle has a thin bar along which a tab-shaped pin moves. Next is a flat attachment with a teardrop-shaped body, a pair of openwork heart-shaped loops, and a flared top section with small, smooth serrations. Last are 5 rectangular ornaments, each with convex obverse faces and a pair of rivets on the verso, meant to attach vertically to a wide belt. Lovely layers of green and brown patina envelop each component, and some exhibit areas of gorgeous azurite patina. Size of largest item (vertical ornament): 3.8" L (9.7 cm).

Provenance: ex-private Davis collection, Houston, Texas, USA; ex-private English collection

Condition Report: Small losses to rivets on some vertical ornaments. All items have minor abrasions, light softening to some finer hammered details, and light encrustations. Light earthen deposits as well as great green and brown patina throughout. Scattered areas of nice azurite patina on some items.
