John F. Kennedy: Alliance For Progress 15 Piece Tea Set. The Alliance for Progress initiated by President Kennedy in 1961 aimed to establish economic cooperation between the U.S. and Latin America. Governor Luis Muñoz Marín of Puerto Rico was a close advisor on Latin American affairs to Kennedy, and one of his top administrators Teodoro Moscoso, the architect of "Operation Bootstrap", was named the coordinator of the program by the President. This rare tea set (The only example we have seen) was made to commemorate this partnership. Each piece is marked "24 Karat Parvani" on the bottom, having gold gilding on each piece. The set is complete and in excellent condition. Also included is a first day cover dated August 17, 1963 commemorating the partnership.
