Charles E. Hughes Supreme Court Photograph Signed By All Nine Justices. 16.5" x 11.75", Washington, D.C.; no date [circa 1930-1932]. A Harris & Ewing studio portrait of the justices posed in their robes. Signed by: Charles E. Hughes, Oliver W. Holmes, James C. McReynolds, Willis Van Devanter, Harlan F. Stone, George Sutherland, Pierce Butler, Owen Roberts, and Louis Brandeis. Signed below the image in the lower margin. McReynolds, Van Devanter, Butler, and Sutherland were known as the "Four Horsemen" for striking down multiple policies proposed by Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal. In 1932, at the age of 90, Justice Oliver Holmes retired from the court. He was the oldest serving justice in the court's history at the time. Condition: Light silvering at the top of the photograph.
