Five (5) English copperplate engravings depicting maritime scenes, including three (3) by Thomas Major (United Kingdom, 1720-1799) and two (2) by John Boydell (United Kingdom, 1720-1804), after various artists, published in London, circa 1749-52. Each depicts reproductions of paintings or views of towns, including Hammersmith, a district of west London. Artist and engraver information, lower left and right below image, title and publication information, centered below image. All items unframed. Plates ranging from 10 3/8" H x 12 1/8" W to 11 7/8" H x 16 1/2" W.
PROVENANCE: Private Middle Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: All items in overall good condition with foxing spots, toning, areas of dampstaining, pencil inscriptions. Boydell Hammersmith engraving with crease, tears, largest 1 1/2", paperclip rust stain, top left. Four engravings with old brown paper tape to left edges of sheet.
