LeRoy Neiman (American, 1921-2012) The Kill--Moment of Truth, Matador Chamaco, 1960 Oil on canvas 40 x 30 inches (101.6 x 76.2 cm) Signed and dated lower left: LeRoy Neiman 60 PROVENANCE: Frank J. Oehlschlaeger Gallery, Chicago, Illinois; Collection of Paul & Iris Zahara, Flossmoor, Illinois, acquired from the above. It's possible that The Kill, Moment of Truth (Matador Chamaco) was inspired by Neiman's time spent in Spain. At that time, Chamaco was headlining Madrid's San Isidro fair and his career, although on the decline, was legendary in the exotic world of Bullfighting. "Playboy made the good life a reality for me and made it the subject matter of my paintings--not affluence and luxury, as such, but joie de vivre itself," he told an interviewer for VIP Magazine (July 1962).
