7 Colima, Teotihuacan, & Veracruz Pottery Artifacts

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE; Central Mexico, Teotihuacan, ca. 3rd to 7th century CE; Gulf Coast Mexico, Veracruz (Vera Cruz), ca. 3rd to 7th century CE. A neat gathering of 7 hand-built pottery artifacts from across ancient Mexico. First are two large Colima figures: a mother with a child on her back, and a nude female standing nude with outstretched arms. Next is a Colima zoomorphic head with large eyes and perky ears. A Colima earspool features a floral motif on the circular face, and a large, spouted bowl was perhaps used as a baby feeder. A petite Teotihuacan head bears slit-form eyes beneath a broad headdress with a conical frontal ornament. A Veracruz head features smooth surfaces and a surprised expression beneath the elongated, tab-shaped brow. Size of largest (Colima mother and child): 3.6" W x 7.75" H (9.1 cm x 19.7 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s

Condition Report: Repair to one Colima figure and limbs of figure on spouted bowl, with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Losses to ear of zoomorphic head, part of face and entire body of Teotihuacan head, head of child behind mother's back, body of Veracruz head, and lower rod body of earspool. All pieces have light abrasions, softening to some finer details, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
