82 J. Mudie Silver British Victory Medals RARE SET

Scarce double full (two complete) set of James Mudie commemorative "National Medals Recording British Victories," to celebrate naval and military victories of the Napoleonic Wars. Cast in Solid Sterling Silver. Commissioned by James Mudie Esq., London, 1820. Each set comprised of forty medals. Original period custom frame, one medal mounted set showing the obverse next to a second metal set showing the reverse. ADDITIONALLY two larger format Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington medals are mounted in the center. Elaborate frame with coat of arms at the top and relief lettering NATIONAL MEDALS RECORDING BRITISH VICTORIES to bottom. Formerly in the collection of James A. Noe Sr. (1890-1976), Governor of Louisiana (1936). Overall good condition with toning to silver. One mount with losses to glass, one mount with cracked glass. Wear and losses to gilt frame.
