Considered one of the best anti-war films ever made, La Grande Illusion is director Jean Renoir's elegant masterpiece. During World War One, two French airmen (Jean Gabin and Pierre Fresnay) are shot down over the German lines and wind up prisoners. After several escape attempts, they are sent to a fortress commanded by aristocratic Erich von Stroheim. A unique friendship between enemies develops, even as the Frenchmen plan another escape. This poster for the release of the film after World War II, features wonderful artwork by Bernard Lancy.
