917/30 Junior Kart

With twin turbochargers feeding a 5.4-liter V-12, the mighty 917/30 dominated the 1973 Can-Am (Canadian-American Challenge Cup) campaign. Mark Donohue notched pole position for all eight rounds with an average advantage of 1.6 seconds. Six victories later, he had obliterated the field, won the title, and prompted the rulebook to be rewritten.
The two-thirds scale 917/30 Junior Kart offered here, chassis 02, is a wonderful homage. The result of an 18-month project, it utilizes an aluminum spaceframe chassis and CAD-designed body that mirrors the racer. It was painted by Andy Duffin with sign writing to recreate the Sunoco livery. A 400-cubic-centimeter Kawasaki engine making 13 horsepower is fitted to a CVT with a reverse gear and differential lock. Independent double-wishbone front suspension, a working rear cooling fan, dual hydraulic drum brakes, and Hoosier tires also feature. With a sliding seat to fit adult and younger drivers, horn, plus capacity to fit a towbar, this 917/30 Junior Kart could make for the ultimate motorsport paddock support vehicle.
