A 19th century Russian silver spice box (besamim), Moscow, c.1873, assay master Victor Savinkov or Savinsky, maker I.A (Cyrillic И.А), the square base with turquoise points to a domed foot designed with a Star of David and supporting a figural stem, the globular spice container with hinged lid decorated with small garnet and coral cabochons, 11.1cm high, approx. weight 2.9oz
Please refer to department for condition report The spice box is in good overall condition commensurate with age. The hinge to the globular box is loose and there is some nicking and scratching to the base, stem and box. There are some scratches and small chips to the garnet and coral cabochons and one of the turquoise cabochons is cracked. There is some bruising to the base around the marks. The figure is heavily tarnished and pitted, with some damage (including possible corrosion) noted, particularly to the face and back. There are some holes noted to the reverse of the figure and some splits to the pierced base (mainly to the star decoration). There are two small pin-like protrusions visible to the back of the figure.
