An extremely fine and historically important 9½ inch gauge model of the LNWR Precursor Class 4-4-0 locomotive and tender No 1941 'Alfred the Great', built by H.C. Powell in Crewe locomotive Works 1955 for the late V. Hewitt with copper fire-tube boiler with scale back head fittings including water gauge, twin injector, whistle, blower, steam brake, safety, clack and blowdown valves. Footplate details include adjustable opening fire door, lockable reversing lever, glazed windows, damper and other control levers and other details. Chassis details include twin outside cylinders with inside joy valve gear, detailed big ends and fluted coupling rods, cab-controlled cylinder drains, displacement and mechanical lubricators, oil boxes and pipe work to all bearings, two injectors, whistles, riveting and fine pipework, steam operated brake gear, working sanding gear, steps, hand and lamp irons and much other fine detailing. Tender details include hand operated brake gear, draw bar check chains and buffers, tank level gauge, pick-up scoop, tool boxes, fine rivet detail, fall plate, steps, hand and lamp irons, the whole finished in LNWR 'blackberry' black with correct red, straw and grey lining, engraved and wax-filled name plates and cast number plates, mounted on a display track and ballast. Locomotive measurements - 62.3 x 263.5cm. Measurements including display track - 149.8 x 324.5cm.
