China, transitional period from Ming to Qing Dynasty (c. 1620-1680). The round tray with shallow sides and everted rim, painted to the show side in underglaze blue with a court boy sitting on a terrace among blossoming trees, all within a circular band of ribboned auspicious symbols enclosed by double circles.
Condition: Firing imperfection, small chip to the rim, as well as age-related wear, otherwise fine condition.
Provenance: Holzapfel collection, Geneva, Switzerland. This lot was acquired by a second-generation member of the Holzapfel family and has remained in the family ever since.
