A ‘BOY AND LINGZHI’ WHITE JADE CARVING China,...
A ‘BOY AND LINGZHI’ WHITE JADE CARVING
China, Attributed to Qing Dynasty
The jade figure is carved in the round out of a white stone as a smiling crouching boy, each of his hands grasping a lingzhi branch slung over his body. The open-worked part may have been meant as apertures for suspension.
L: 5 cm
Weight: 36,2 grams
Note: This boy figure is interesting in the sense that its position is similar to that of apsara. If that boy holds a lingzhi fungus branch, it is more often depicted together with a lotus sprig, that association conveying a wish known as “Tongzi Lianzi” (童子莲子), lit. “continuous and harmonious descent”.
