A BROAD RIMMED PEWTER DISH EARLY 17TH CENTURY Possibly French, the plain dished centre within edge with triple line banding, later marked 1640 EL PW, reverse with collector's label numbered 175, indistinct touch mark, cross above stylised heart W 38cm diameter Provenance: Works of Art from the collection of the late Roger Warner Esq, offered by his family. Formerly with old label denoting it had come from the Sutherland Graeme collection. Probably purchased by Roger Warner from Sotheby's sale of the collection London, 3rd June 1965. Captain A V Sutherland published a series of articles on pewter in Apollo and The Connoisseur and was commissioned to help source pewter for the Colonial Williamsburg Museum.
