A CHAOYANG PEWTER SWEET MEAT WARMER, CONTAINER AND SERVING DISH
China, Guangdong, Chaozhou, Late Qing Dynasty, Circa 1900
Comprised of a large lobed food box / warmer applied with two loose ring handles for transportation together with its matching lid, the inner part with five lidded bowls, the central one with a ruyi shaped finial embellished with agate stone, the outer part with four removable pieces together with fours dishes. All pieces embellished with chiselling decoration, some with inscriptions reading, some others with floral designs, some others with birds. All pieces are marked to the below: “潮阳颜联顺正记点锡”, i.e. the name of the factory, trade mark being “Chaoyang, Yan Huiji”.
H: 16,5 cm – D: 39 cm
Notes:
1. Compare with a related container preserved at the National Museum van Wereldculturen, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
2. Also compare with one fish-shaped tureen of the same factory offered at Christie’s Hong Kong, China, 2020/10/08, lot 448, sold for HKD20.000 BP incl.
