A CHINESE CIZHOU WHITE-GLAZED LAMP STAND OR CENSER Northern Song / Jin Dynasty 宋或金 磁州窰白釉燭台或香爐 Potted with a wide circular flange surmounting a columnar body atop a splayed foot, decorated in a clear glaze over white slip that stops short of the foot and interior exposing the buff-coloured body, 7.7cm high, 12cm diameter - PROVENANCE: Property of a French Private Collection formed in Hong Kong during the 1960’s-1980’s 來源: 法國私人收藏,1960-1980年代在香港組成 - c.f. A comparable white-glazed lamp stand dated to the Song Dynasty is in the Ashmolean Museum, from the gift of Gerald Reitlinger, 1978, acc. no. EA1978.1788. A comparable lamp has been illustrated by Regina Krahl in 'Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, Volume 1', 1994, p.261, pl.476. For another similar example, dated to the end of the 11th or early 12th century, see Yutaka Mino, 'Freedom of Clay and Brush through Seven Centuries in Northern China; Tz'u-chou Type Wares, 960-1600', 1981, p.72, no.52. A similar object, described as a censer, is illustrated in the catalogue of the 'Memorial Exhibition of The Charles B. Hoyt Collection, 13 February - 30 March 1952', Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, p. 70, no. 277. A similar white-glazed lamp stand was offered at Sotheby's New York, 28th March 2023, lot 953.
