Nishapur, Iran, 10th century
Of hemispherical shape, with rounded everted rim, on a short circular foot, the earthenware body covered in opaque white tin-based slip and painted with six copper green splashes on the rim and an undeciphered pseudo-Kufic inscription in black manganese, 26cm diam.
Provenance: Stephen Keynes (1927 – 2017), acquired at Spink & Son and other London dealers in the 1960's.
A similar though smaller bowl was successfully sold in these rooms, 3 May 2019, lot 14.
