A Chippendale Cherrywood Tall Case Clock

[ translate ]

A Chippendale Cherrywood Tall Case Clock
Likely Pennsylvania, Circa 1780
with Osborne movement, the works likely an early replacement.
Height 90 x width 18 x depth 9 1/2 inches.
Property from the Collection of Addice and Peter Thomas, Fairfax, Virginia

Provenance:
Private Collection, Baltimore, Maryland;
Richard Brody, New Market, Maryland, 15 June 1991.
Condition Report: In overall fine and stable condition. The clock takes a wind, runs and chimes on the appropriate hour, but cannot guarantee that the clock keeps accurate time or that it will run indefinitely through the full movement. The clock will need to be properly balanced in order to run correctly and keep accurate time. The case showing old scuffs, marks and scratches consistent with age and use. Few age cracks throughout. The works and the case are associated to one another and did not start life together. There is a loss along the proper left corner of the molding at the top of the case, but most of those pieces have been retained. There is an old patch to the proper right side of the case just above the lower molding. Small repair patch on the door of the hood. The trunk with replaced hinges. Key escutcheon missing. Finial plinth on the proper left side of the hood is reglued. Painted dial with craquelure throughout and with some areas of loss, the 11 has been repainted. With two weights and pendulum. Lacking the winding key.
