A Chola-style bronze figure of Vishnu. India, Tamil Nadu. 12th century or later
Standing on a lotus blossom above a square moulded base, the right hand in abhaya mudra, the left placed on to an imaginary club, chakra and conch shell in the upper hands. The deity wears rich jewelry and a wide belt secures the tight-fitting dhoti at the hip, the sacred thread lies across the upper body. Two slender tangs and a total of four eyelets to the base. Slightly encrusted, malachite-green and rust-brown patina in places.
