A Copeland & Garrett New Stone part-dinner and dessert service, circa 1835-1840
printed, painted and gilt in the Imari palette with flowering branches within whorl and scroll pattern borders, comprising: a two-handled rectangular centrepiece, a pair of similar smaller footed dishes, a pair of two-handled circular baskets, four shell-shaped dishes, four shaped oval dishes, six shaped circular dishes, fourteen soup plates, seventy-six dinner plates, thirty-seven dessert plates, printed and impressed marks iron red pattern number 2086

Condition Report:
In overall good condition. In detail: a two-handled rectangular centrepiece, 33cm. wide: in good order a pair of similar smaller footed dishes, 29cm. wide: in good order a pair of two-handled circular baskets, 22cm. wide across handles: in good condition four shell-shaped dishes, each 24.5cm. long: two in good condition, one cracked across and riveted, one has a crack next to the handle, slight wear four shaped oval dishes, 27cm. long: in good condition six shaped circular dishes, 24cm. wide: in good condition fourteen soup plates, earlier Spode, 24cm. wide: four in good order, three with minor cracks, one with a small rim chip, two with chipping to rim and cracks, and five broken or cracked and riveted seventy-six dinner plates, 24.6cm. wide: thirty-eight plates in general good order with minor rubbing to gilding, slight flaking to the rims and some staining, four plates with minor cracks but still usable, twenty-five plates with minor chipping to rims but usable, and nine plates with notable damage and some riveting thirty-seven dessert plates, 20.5cm. wide: twenty-four in general good order with some slight wear and some staining, ten with minor chipping and/or cracks but generally in usable condition, three with notable damages

Possibly acquired by or a gift to William, 11th Duke of Hamilton (1811-1863) and his wife Marie Amelie, Duchess of Hamilton (1817–1888) around the time of their marriage in 1843.
