(A) DELUXE WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 LEVER-ACTION RIFLE

Serial number 79212, manufactured in 1893. Rare 30-inch full octagon barrel matted full length on top flat. Caliber marking .45-90 located on second barrel flat at the breech. Lyman adjustable wind gauge front sight, no provision for rear barrel sight, correct mid-range tang sight. Button magazine tube. Pistol grip deluxe checkered stock and forearm with cheek rest and hard rubber shotgun style butt plate. Single set trigger. Case hardened receiver. Accompanying the rifle is a Winchester Museum letter dated August 12, 2014 signed by Jessica A. Bennett, Records Specialist, Cody Firearms Museum. Letter documents all the special order features and configuration including sights, barrel length, deluxe wood, and cheek rest. No mention of barrel matting, though we feel the matting is correct and original. Shipped from the warehouse on May 16, 1893. CONDITION: Excellent overall with 30-40% original fading case color on frame, lever, hammer, and forearm cap turning nickel like in appearance. "H" pattern checkering shows moderate wear. Interesting to note, the deluxe grade highly figured walnut stock and forearm have an original oil type finish, rather than the typically seen varnished finish. All original unmolested screws. 95-98% original blue on barrel. Bore is excellent+, bright and clean. Most all original high polish bright blue on trigger and loading gate. Most all original blue on bolt.
