A WILLIAM & MARY DOUBLE-SIDED FIGURED WALNUT AND FEATHER BANDED BUREAU ON STANDCIRCA 1690 AND LATER The fall opening to an arrangement of pigeon holes and short drawers above a slide covered well and an inset velvet writing surface, finished all round with veneer to the back95cm high, 84cm wide, 50cm deep (when closed)Condition Report: Please note, upon further inspection the legs to this bureau are of later 19th century date. Therefore the dating for this lot should read 'circa 1690 and later' and not as originally printed in the catalogue. Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Old splits and chips. Later bocks to interior of carcass. Some old veneer repairs with filler used in places. Some later small nails and pegs securing veneers and mouldings. The velvet inset writing surface with wear, ageing and some dicolouration. there is a split along the fold line to the centre. There are some old ink stains to the interior of the fall section and drawers. Escutcheons are old replacements and there are some small holes and 'shadow' around them where previous escutcheons once sat. Locks are 18th century replacements. A key is present but doesn't operate the locks (only spins in place). All locks are open. Legs are later 19th century replacements. They are very well coloured and suit the piece.
