A FINE ANTIQUE CARVED CAMEO BROOCH, 19TH CENTURY in 18ct yellow gold, the oval shell cameo carved in detail to Apollo in his chariot being drawn up to the sun, preceded at the far right by Aurora, whilst Lucifer, personifying the day star, flies above to lead the way, and the Horae and their nymphs dance around the chariot, the mount with applied berry and vine decoration, accented by twisted wires, indistinct assay marks, 7.8cm, 30.7g. The scene depicted is after a 1614 ceiling fresco in the Palazzo Pallavicini-Rospigliosi by Guido Reni.
