A French gilt bronze model of a reclining maiden, possibly representing Venus, late 19th century, the maiden portrayed in early Renaissance dress and resting on a cushion, possibly previously a desk ornament or mount, 13cm high, 29cm wide The present lot may have been inspired by early Renaissance works such as the circa 1485 painting of Venus and Mars by Sandro Botticelli which now hangs in the National Gallery. This picture presents Venus in nearly identical pose and attire, also reclining above a tasselled cushion
