A French giltwood and composition large overmantel mirror

A French giltwood and composition large overmantel mirror, circa 1860, with scroll surmount above the arched plate and surround with oak and laurel fruiting foliage decoration, 195cm high, 134cm wide.

Condition Report:
Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use,

Old splits and cracks, chips and losses to areas of the gilding, also surface dirt and discolouration and wear - this is revealing underlying bole in places, overall the gilt surface is uneven - there are areas where it is much brighter - the upper halves of the side frame and areas where it is duller and dirtier (the cresting area and the lower horizontal rail)

Loss to one upper piece of composition at the top of the frame, this reveals not only the composition but also the securing wire
