A GEORGE I FIGURED WALNUT AND FEATHERBANDED CHEST OF DRAWERS CIRCA 1725 92cm high, 104cm wide, 57.5cm deep Provenance: Bargany House, Girvan, Ayrshire Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old chips and splits. Some old losses. The hardware is not original, there are previous old holes to the reverse of the drawer fronts, both the handles and escutcheons are replaced. However they are in period taste and suit the piece well. There are 'shadows' to the drawer fronts from where previous handles and escutcheons were previously affixed. The chest would have originally had bun feet, these have been replaced with bracket feet which are well matched to the piece and well constructed. The backboard appears to be original and has later tape applied over historic splits. Solid and stable overall. The appearance could be greatly improved by attention from a qualified restorer.Condition Report Disclaimer
