A GEORGE I WALNUT OPEN ARMCHAIR CIRCA 1725 96cm high, 61cm wide, 62cm deep overallProvenance: Private Collection, LondonFor related examples of chair see, Christie's, New York, Important English Furniture, 15th April 2005, Lot 299 ($26,400), and Christie's, South Kensington, Christie's Interiors - Masters & Makers, 21st June 2011, Lot 60 (£5,000), and Christie's, London, Important English Furniture and Carpets, 23rd November 2006, Lot 115 (£12,000). Please note, this lot should be dated as '1725' and not as originally printed in the catalogue.Condition Report: Chair with marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Timber elements with the expected old minor splits and chips. Some fading to the timber of the arms. Needlework with various old stitched repairs overall. Needlework appears to have previously been professionally cleaned. Needlework is 18th century but might be of a later date than the chair. It is possibly original and has been re-applied to the chair, or is later associated. There is later fabric to the back and seat rails as well as later piping. Dreweatts cannot guarantee the originality of elements beneath upholstery. Slight movement within the arms but the chair is structurally solid overall. Evidence of old worm to seat rails. Two later supporting blocks to the underside. Later screws and nails securing 'ears' at tops of legs. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. Condition Report Disclaimer
