A GEORGE III SILVER TAPERING TANKARD JOHN SCHOFIELD, LONDON 1795 The flat cover with a pierced thumb piece and engraved with a crest, the body with a scroll handle, reeded bands and engraved with an armorial 18cm (7in) high 841g (30.3 oz) These separate engravings represent the full armorial of the arms of Thomas Langford BROOKE (1769-1815) of Mere Hall, Knutsford, Cheshire and his wife the Maria BROUGHTON (1768-1841) daughter of Revd. Sir Thomas BROUGHTON (1749-1813) 6th Baronet of Broughton Staffordshire by Mary WICKER, daughter of John WICKER. They were married in the year 1790. Thomas Langford BROOKE was the younger son of Peter BROOKE (1722-1783) of Mere Hall, who was MP for Cheshire, by his second wife Elizabeth LANGFORD (1768-1841) co-heir of Jonas LANGFORD of Antigua and Theobalds Hertfordshire. In 1797 he was MP for Newton. On the death of his brother in 1784 he inherited the plantation in Antigua of his maternal grandfather.
