A GEORGE IV SILVER SHAPED OVAL SOUP TUREEN AND COVER THOMAS WIMBUSH, LONDON 1829, THE LINER BY BENJAMIN PRESTON, LONDON 1831 The domed cover with a demi lion crest finial and a moulded border, the body with twin branch loop handles issuing from oak leaves and acorns, a chased bead and quatrefoil border, and on four foliate scroll feet, engraved with two armorials to both the cover and the body, the first armorial of the East India Company, granted in 1696, and engraved 'Presented by the Honorable East India Company', the second armorial is for the Bosanquet family, the shaped oval liner engraved with a crest 44cm (17 1/4in) long 5501g (176.9 oz) gross Provenance: Sale, Sotheby's, 20th November 1986, lot 231The Bosanquet family were Huguenot descendants of David du Mont de BOSANQUET (1661-1732) born Lunel Languedoc-Roussillion, France, who fled to London in 1698, where he married Elizabeth HAYS (1676-1737). The family were merchants and financiers and established themselves in England, with Richard BOSANQUET (1735-1809) becoming a director of the East India Company and Samuel BOSANQUET (1744-1806) becoming the Governor of the Bank of England. The armorial for the BOSANQUET family has blazon, and the engraving shows the BOSANQUET arms as a quarterly, ensuring that the BOSANQUET family member who owned the arms were a descendants of Samuel BOSANQUET (1700-1765) and Mary DUNSTER (1712-1765). Condition Report: Marks to the cover clearMarks to the body lightly rubbedAll engraving is crispSlightly wobblesThe cover with two minor dents to the edge of the raised sectionThe cover fits with slight gaps without the liner fittedLion finial appears to be off centre to the coverMarks to the liner clearSplit to the rim of the liner near one of the crests.
