A GILT BRONZE BUDDHA HEAD, AYUDHYA
Thailand, 15th – 16th century. Heavily cast with a meditative expression, downcast almond-shaped eyes, finely incised lips, surmounted by a heart-shaped hairline with numerous, minuscule curls below the ushnisha. Mounted to modern bronze and wood base.
Condition: Losses, dents and some heat damage as visible on the images. Natural dark patina with deep encrustations, very little remnants of gilding. Old wear. Overall fair condition and in accordance with the age of this head.
Provenance: From a London private collection of Buddhist art.
