A George III embossed leather chest, late 18th century, on later stand

A George III embossed leather chest, late 18th century, on later stand, the top with a central Ducal Coronet within a nailed border and Chinoiserie hunting scenes, the front similarly decorated and the remaining sides with diaper decoration and brass carrying handles, on a brown painted stand with square legs headed by C-scroll brackets, 84cm high, 87cm wide, 48cm deep

This lot is to be sold without reserve

Condition Report:
Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and use. Old splits, tears and small elements of loss. (see additional images for examples) . Some wear, fading and discoloration comensurate with age. The lock and escutcheon appear original, the key is lacking . A lock catch is present but detached and without screws to re-attach. The current interior lining covers the position where the catch would be located. We cannot guarantee that the lock catch present is original and would work with the lock. The side carrying handles appear original. The visible side panels of the main chest section are solid camphor, the floor panels appear to be pine. (see images) The interior lining of the chest is later and is glued down. The lining is not complete (see images) The stand is of 20th century manufacture and bears a number of marks and scratches throughout. It bears some losses to the moulding of the edges also. There is a later applied panel of timber to the underside of the chest. There is no other specific history/ provenance to this lot, other than it formed part of the collection of Sir William Whitfield CBE.
