A George III silver cream jug by Peter & Ann Bateman, of helmet shape with reeded rim above stippled borders and engraved floral swags enclosing a vacant oval cartouche, with loop handle and raised on a square pedestal foot. Hallmarked London 1792. Height including handle 5.75" (14.5cm), weight 3.61 ozt (112.4 grams).
Condition Report:
- Appears in fairly good overall condition, displaying some expected surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.
- There looks to be a repair to the handle, on the rounded section near to the top and reeded rim. A seam line also visible.
- The engraved decoration has lost some of its brightness and crispness.
- The rim of the lip feels a little rough in places and there are some minor edge nicks or nibbles.
- Gilt-wash interior a little faded towards the lip.
- Hallmarks located to the underside of foot, in the corners, and these all clearly legible.
