Rectangular, the cover inset with a relief plaque of Neptune in his chariot drawn by hippocampi, glazed with a gold frame, within a chased floral border, the sides and base with engine-turned decoration, gilded interior, the inside cover with presentation inscription dated 1834, length 8cm.
The presentation inscription reads: "Presented to Mr Hy Simpson, Churchwarden, of St Martin in the field, by 24 householders, in admiration of his courage in standing trial against a self elected vestry, and for his talent and perseverance in bringing it to a successful issue thereby restoring the ancient rights and priviledges of the rate payers, which had been withheld more than 200 years, Decr 20th 1834"
