A George III silver tea caddy by Thomas Chawner.

A George III silver tea caddy, the simple oval form decorated with a bird crest within bright cut engraved ribbon-tied oval border, and repeated to the opposing side, the domed lid with floral engraving around the flush hinges and having a carved ivory pineapple finial. Hallmarked Thomas Chawner, London 1784. Overall length and height including finial both 5.5" (14cm), gross weight 11.1 ozt (345.3 grams).

Condition Report:
- Displaying some general surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.
- Some minor dints and knocks, especially around the rim and around the edges of the base.
- Also some heavier contact marks and scuffs around the edges of the base.
- On the underside of the base, there is a patch of heavier scraped or file type marks.
- Impressions from the hallmarks visible to the interior base.
- Some small blobs of solder around the inner edge, possible small repairs or maybe from the construction.
- Hinged lid appears in good working order and closes flush.
- Hinges protrude a little on each side. Appears to be some slight damage around them
- There is a small patch on the reverse of the lid where the surface appears a little uneven and lumpy.
- Some slight cracks and dirt residues to the ivory finial.
- All the parts of the pinapple finial are only loosely fitted together. Possibly missing a washer to fix it more securely.
- Some surface wear and rubbing to the decoration with some slight loss of detail to some areas.
- Residues of a sticky label visible to the base.
- Hallmarks located to base, with further lion passant and maker's mark to reverse of lid. Lightly rubbed but all appear crisp and clear.
- Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.
