A George III sterling silver sugar bowl, London 1819 by William Fountain (reg. 1st Sept 1794) In the Irish style, of rounded circular form with an everted scalloped rim, raised upon three claw feet with chased lion mask junctions. The fluted sides with applied and chased decoration of a Chinaman, flowers, a classical dolphin, heron, and a dove with a flower in the beak, centred with a C scroll cartouche engraved with a coat of arms. The rim with chased flowers, C scrolls and shells. Gilt interior. Fully marked underneath. Diameter – 15.1 cm / 6 inches Weight – 346 grams / 11.12 ozt The arms are for Browning of Cowley Gloucestershire, Sandford, Westlake of Kirkhampton Bedfordshire, and Sandford, Ireland (certified May 1779), as well as others.
