A George IV carved mahogany sideboard, circa 1825, of breakfront serpentine outline, the shaped top with gadrooned edge, above an arrangement of drawers interspersed with lion masks and reeded sabre legs terminating in paw feet, 105cm high, 197cm wide, 80cm deep

Provenance: Property from a Private Collection, previously purchased from the Horace Babb Collection, Richard R Currie (Auctioneers), Johannesburg, 1959, lot 103 (copy catalogue available with the lot)

Condition Report:
Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use, some old chips and losses to veneers and elements of inlay, the top with an area with a dent and scratch near the centre, also some other old marks and stains The locks appear original throughout but the handles are later associated - these largely cover the marks from the originals but not entirely. There are no keys present with the lot The provenance catalogue with old pen marks and notes, fading, rips and tears, folds and creases, and staining as is entirely to be expected from ephemera of this type Some old splits and cracks to the sides
