A German wheellock rifle ("Müller-Büchse"), circa 1690
Octagonal, slightly swamped barrel rifled with eight grooves in 13.5 cm calibre. Dovetailed brass sights. The top of the barrel with stamped "V. RODER" signature, the base of the barrel with stamped "CR" mark and blossom. Brass inlaid stripe with engraved floral décor at the breech, the oval brass inlay surrounded by the inscription "Des Morgens für gar stolz geht der edel Hirsch zu Holtz". Lock with internal wheel, spring-loaded pan cover with release button. The lockplate engraved with a siege scene, depicting soldiers firing at a town with a mortar. Adjustable set trigger. Slightly carved walnut full stock with horn nose (polished staghorn). Brass inlaid figure of a commander with military trophies on the cheekpiece. Butt stock with patchbox, smooth iron furniture. Original wooden ramrod with bone tip. Length 110.5 cm.
