Lot Description:

A Good 18th Century Testament Needlework Sampler, dated 1729, finely worked on linen with two central panels, one incorporating "The Lord's Prayer", the other "The Creed". Above, the first two bands of silk embroidery reproduce the alphabet and numbers. Then follows: "Sarah Rendells is my name, and England is my Nation, Sion Court is my dwelling place and Christ is my salvation". A band of heats and diamonds plus the initials "WR" complete this panel. Below the religious text, a band of carnations, bands of the alphabet and numbers, and a further verse or prayer" Lord give me wisdom to direct my ways. ??? not riches nor yet length of days" followed by hearts and diamonds. A band of crowns of different forms is followed by the alphabet and finally "Sarah Rendells Finished by me in the year of our Lord God 1729 July the 2". Unframed but inserted into a slip ready for framing. Within the slip, size approx. 16 inches or 40.5cm by 9 inches or 23cm.

Condition Report:
. Colours faded; original shades visible from the rear as unframed. Mainly blues, russet and green. One 1cm hole top right between the second and third bands.
