The rectangular panel lacquered dark-brown and intricately inlaid with jade, coral, cinnabar lacquer, hardwood and other stones, to form a vignette of antique vessels supported on carved wood stands and filled with flowering plants, fruits and auspicious objects, the top right with four characters reading mei shou wan nian (longevity for ten thousand years), framed.

All the plants and fruits in this panel are filled with auspicious symbolism related to longevity, good fortune and progeny. Such inlaid panels were popular decorations in halls in the Forbidden City. An example in the Suian Shi (Chamber of Pursuing Tranquillity) is illustrated in Classics of Forbidden City: Life in the Forbidden City of Qing Dynasty, Beijing, 2007, p.115, pl.175. Related panels have sold at Sotheby's New York, 14 September 2011, lot 136, and Christie's Hong Kong, 20 May 2012, lot 4092.
