Description: A JAPANESE BONE INLAY PANEL
MEIJI PERIOD (1868-1912), CIRCA 1890
A stunning Shibayama style inlaid panel featuring blooming peony, spring flowers and wren atop young bamboo. An additional silver engraved disc on bottom left noting 'Au Mikado - Comiands Saroudis - Port Said'
89cm high, 52cm wide, 11cm deep

OTHER NOTES:
Au Mikado was a tea and coffee emporium situated in the central, 'first' district of Vienna during the closing years of the nineteenth century and the first decades of the twentieth.

Condition:

Condition: Substraight board slightly warped to the right hand side, pulling the board slightly back from the frame. A few small chips to the edges of the carving in places, lower front peony petal with a loss to one part of the petal. upper left peony leaf with a loss to one edge of the leaf . Evidence of past regluing of sections on the lacquer. Fine cracking and small losses in places to lacquer.
