A JEWELLED COURT SWORD (KASTANA) AND SCABBARD, SRI LANKA, PROBABLY KANDY, 19TH CENTURY

the cast, chased and engraved gilt-hilt in the form of a yali, the knuckle-guard and quillons also terminating with yali heads, gem-set, the curved single-edged blade with single groove, engraved 'D.J.A.Ekenaike Modliar', with silver-gilt wood scabbard carved with foliate decoration and terminal in form of stylised dragon head, in bespoke Asprey case
54.7cm., 21½in.

Condition Report:
In good overall condition, the scabbard with rubbing to gilding and minor patches of oxidisation, the blade with slight oxidisation, some of gemstones probably later replacements, with a small foliate gem-set detail which was detached, as viewed.
