A Japanese Meiji-period ivory okimono, H 30,7 cm - weight c. 1.125 g.
Depicting a fish merchant, with black stained engraving, signed
Condition: - apart from the remarks below, the item in our opinion in an acceptable to good condition
- composed, as most of the genuine Meiji-period okimono, out of various parts
- probably due to a fall, the head of the man was broken and glued; idem dito for the left hand
- the same also goes for the basket that was incorrectly reglued which is visible at the belt - the connecting dowel broke and wasn't replaced
- and the matching hole of the basket isn't in the correct position
- one of the fishes lays loose in the basket
- one of the chela (tail fin) broken and missing
- at the back of the base, we have the impression that some minor part was broken and missing
