A ‘Jizhou’ ‘Tortoiseshell’ bowl and a jar
The bowl with deep rounded sides and slightly flaring rim, raised on a narrow foot, covered overall with a brownish-black glaze and splashed with caramel-beige tones simulating tortoiseshell, the base unglazed revealing the buff body; the jar of inverted baluster form with a wide shoulder and short neck, covered in a dark brown glaze with lighter flecks, stopping short of the foot to reveal the buff coloured body. Period: The bowl Song (960 - 1279); the jar Northern Song (960 - 1127). Diameter: 10 - 11 cm.
