A Korean gilt bronze figure of a standing Buddha, plank-like in form he is dressed in a richly pleated robe reaching his feet placed slightly apart, hands in the protection and compassion gesture, the hair with many cast and impressed curls. Cast with one large opening in the back and a smaller in back of head. On stand. Unified Silla Dynasty. 8th/9th century. H. excl. stand 21 cm.
Provenance: From the collection of John Marsing 1918–1998. Marsing was only 20 when he established his company Marsing & Co in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. In 30 years, the company expanded from two to 300 employees and became an international company with branches in Europe, Canada and Korea. Even so Marsing found time to establish a large collection of mainly Himalayan art focusing on figures of quality.
