A Louis XV Gilt Bronze Mounted Boulle Marquetry Bracket Clock

The Dial Signed Mangeant à Paris, 18th Century

the movement signed Saint Martin à Paris.
Height overall 48 x width 16 1/2 x depth 8 inches.

European Furniture & Decorative Arts
Dimensions of clock case only: height 26 1/2 x width 17 1/2 x depth 6 1/2 inches.
The Boulle work is made of tortoise shell veneers inlaid with cut brass. The bracket has areas of chipped or lost tortoise shell and lifting or slightly broken brass as is normal. The tortoise shell has a very dark patina throughout. One brass mount is detached from the proper left side.
The clock's case is in similar condition, with normal wear to the brass and tortoise shell. The dial has some hairline cracks in the enamel, and one of the enameled numerals is loose but still attached. Another numeral is detached but present. The clock strikes when the hands are advanced manually, but the hands are misaligned and the clock needs service. There is no winding key but there is a pendulum. The putto finial is missing the end of an element that was in his left hand. The connected parts of the finial and top are slightly loose.

Provenance:
Château de Beauvoir, Briare, France;
thence by family descent to the present owners
