A MARBLE FEMALE TORSO IN THE ROMAN 2ND CENTURY MANNER Of fragmentary form, unfinished to the legs and reverse, on a modern wood stand the torso 17cm high, 25cm high overall, the base 6cm square Provenance: From the collection of the vendor's grandfather, the Classical archaeologist and fellow of New College Oxford, Stanley Casson FSA (1889-1944). At New College he lectured in archaeology and delivered lectures for Oxford University's Ashmolean Museum. In 1927 he was promoted to university lecturer as the first holder of Oxford's Readership in Classical Archaeology. He was elected a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London, made an honorary member of the Bulgarian Archaeological Institute, and awarded the Greek Order of the Redeemer.
