A NORTH ITALIAN WALNUT, CROSS BANDED AND EBONISED CHEST OF DRAWERS POSSIBLY LOMBARDY, LATE 17TH/EARLY 18TH CENTURY98cm high, 142cm wide, 67cm deep Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Various old chips, splits and losses. Various old veneer repairs. Some evidence of old worm in places throughout. Handles and escutcheons are later replacements. The escutcheon to the top drawer varies from the others. Lock plates are old replacements and vary from one another. No key present, all locks are open. Later drawer runners to interior of carcass. Ebonised elements have possibly been re-painted at some point. Later thin block of timber to centre of one drawer. Feet and supporting blocks are old replacements.
